About WINDGRABBER® - Omni-Directional Building Integrated Wind Energy Power Enhancer Systems & Technology!

WINDGRABBER® is a USPTO patented & trademarked new wind energy conversion system technology for integrating almost any current or emerging commercially available wind turbine system of a unique and specified, more conservative & safer design into buildings of any size on a competitively bid basis!
WINDGRABBER® is a novel new integrated building, rooftop, or tower mounted wind turbine system with current commercialization planned for up to approximately 500 kWe. The WINDGRABBER® system is more socially and economically attractive in an environmentally friendly manner. The system concentrates and utilizes the available energy in the wind via either a passively and/or an actively yawed inlet air scoop or scoops or vanes using a relatively low speed and low noise generating air turbine design via the use of a multi-phased wind air inlet air flow section or sections of air impact and drag flow design to both increase and enhance the wind's air flow power effectiveness and efficiency through the wind turbine rotor assembly.

WINDGRABBER® Power is derived primarily from maximizing the differential pressure created across, rather than around, a building containing a fully Integrated WINDGRABBER® Wind Turbine System, which is located at least partially within the building, while minimizing the mass air flow velocities required through the building's associated air supply and exhaust flow channels. These relatively low air velocity flow channels, located within the building, can, thus, simultaneously be cross-purpose-utilized by building occupants as multi-purpose recreational, open air casual dining, theme park or business meeting areas while efficient wind power is being generated!

The WINDGRABBER® wind turbine system preferentially utilizes a combination radial out-flow, cross-flow, reaction-impulse type wind turbine of either a Squirrel Cage, Savonius or Darrieus type configuration and design, using both radial, combined with either a single or double axial flow inlet of centrifugal fan design, and using backwardly curved, air foil type air blades. The wind turbine uses the air power instead of the wind power equations, combined with the associated resistances and shock losses, as well as the compression and expansion factors related to the air flow through the converging and diverging flow channels and wind impact - lift & drag sections, as well as through the wind turbine rotor assembly itself, to determine system wind energy conversion effectiveness and efficiency with respect to the Betz limit to determine the overall system's net efficiencies. Low pressure drop screens may also be provided at the various inlets and outlets to protect birds and other small mammals from being drawn into rotating components, as required. By combining an air foil type air blade design in a low rotational speed drag type Savonius wind turbine system rotor design (TBD) a much wider range of increased wind power generation can be achieved under the power output vs. wind speed curve than that which is achievable with a pure drag type Savonius wind turbine system operating before the wind. Especially when equipped with a three phase ac generator with an auxiliary AI controlled and adjustable electric field to supplement the PM field.

Additionally, A WINDGRABBER® Enclosure-Enhanced Savonius type wind turbine system will achieve even greater wind turbine rotor efficiency and performance in an Omnidirectional Building Integrated wind turbine system approach!

The latest BCK Consulting, LLC / WINDGRABBER® thinking is for the development and construction of new, or the conversion of existing and/or abandoned shopping mall / recreational type properties and facilities, into new medium to large sized Industrial Park / WINDGRABBER® Wind Turbine - Integrated Office Building / Domestic Housing Complexes, with the new and taller WINDGRABBER® Buildings of a new and special design located at equal spaces around the outer periphery of the central park area - yet positioned inside of the surrounding parking lot areas. These combination industrial - domestic housing complexes would be preferentially located along major interstate freeway corridors in more windy resourced locations. From four to eight medium to large sized and relatively tall WINDGRABBER® Buildings would be employed for each industrial park - office building complex. Each building structure would be designed to contain, at least partially within it, a 50 kWh to 500 kWh sized wind turbine system of conservative design and operation for more  socially acceptable and renewable on-site energy generation and utilization. Each industrial central park complex would be most appropriately surrounded in turn by strategically located parking lots, landscaped with shade trees and/or solar photo-voltaic paneled roof structures, as would be most cost effectively designed to both shade and re-charge parked cars as well as provide power and heat to the overall complex area during day time business hours, while a combination of both solar heat and photo-voltaic solar paneled roof structures would be added above the existing, relatively conventional central mall area structures to complete the overall zero net energy based BCK Consulting, LLC,  WINDGRABBER® Industrial Park - Building cluster architecture - using a maximum of renewable energy systems in its design!
Conversely, some of these
WINDGRABBER® Industrial Park - Building clusters could be developed or retrofitted from rededicated and/or abandoned shopping mall centers, and converted into easy to manage and maintain, centrally located community based shopping centers and shelters for the lower cost housing, protection, employment and sustainment of a communities' more itinerant and homeless citizens in a safer, more sanitary and healthy manner and for the benefit of all concerned in the surrounding region. Various combinations of these two concepts could be developed for any specific communities' specific needs as may be required at various times into the future.
For the first of its kind
WINDGRABBER® Industrial Park - Building cluster project, several different types of competing wind turbine pilot plant programs could be demonstrated simultaneously so as to quickly and most cost effectively evaluate which wind turbine design or designs will work most cost effectively and efficiently in an integrated and omni-directionally orientated WINDGRABBER® wind turbine - building type of design.
-
With a WINDGRABBER® Wind Turbine - Integrated Office Building system design, the BETZ  Law  or limit becomes a more meaningless design restriction when applied to most WINDGRABBER® Integrated Building Wind Turbine applications, as the Building itself becomes the cross sectional area for providing the required wind energy capturing profile!

It is envisioned that a series of  standardized WINDGRABBER
® Net Zero Energy Renewable Energy Building structures would be developed at various and most suitable design sized increments so as to house WINDGRABBER® wind turbine systems within them of from approximately 50 kWe to 500 kWe rated single unit sizes, depending on the size of building or buildings required, as well as the associated electrical load demand as needed by it's occupants, at reduced electrical power charge rates for any given building related project.

An additional and unique feature of a WINDGRABBER® installation on, within or above your home or office building's rooftop is that, once the WINDGRABBER® system has been financed and installed, a future replacement or up grade or more efficient wind turbine system will be very competitive with any other renewable energy alternative that might be considered. Also, if the local wind resources you had anticipated don't prove out to be economically viable at some future time, you can easily convert it into a very nice rooftop gazebo or upper floor open-air atrium or plaza type screened-in enclosure with a 360 degree view!

Developing a most cost effective, socially acceptable way to integrate Wind Power into Buildings!
A Phase I – CFD & CAE modeling, technical feasibility assessment and conceptual design verification program utilizing a 1,000 to 2,000 watt pilot plant test unit, followed by a Phase II - design optimization program with a 3,000 to 5,000 watt prototype demonstration unit, and ultimately followed by a Phase III commercial demonstration and product improvement, cost effective design applied R&D type program in a 8 to 10 kWe unit size range is currently under consideration. Results of the most recently completed Rimrock, AZ conceptual design pilot plant test program are currently available for discussion. State of the Art Advanced Math Modeling techniques have recently been conducted and completed in 2019 utilizing both Solidworks 2017 for CAD models and STAR CCM+ for CFD static and in-motion studies for further optimization of the  WINDGRABBER® wind turbine and associated enclosure systems with further wind turbine improvements to the Rimrock, AZ Prototype unit currently being planned for the Summer of 2020. Please see the most recently presented Technical Presentation made at the 2019 ASME IMECE in Salt Lake City, Utah for the latest results and as now available for public viewing elsewhere in this web site.  Next steps in wind turbine rotor design optimization will use fewer air foil air blades of a more robust yet more cost effective design and with a significantly greater air blade chord length and will be larger in both size and capacity so as to greatly improve on the resulting Reynolds numbers and overall unit performance and efficiencies accomplished at lower air blade tip speeds.
